Role

AI-Vibe Coder/Programmer

The Problem: Travelers often rely on generic weather apps that provide basic forecasts but lack trip-specific guidance. As a result, people struggle to plan activities, pack appropriately, and make informed decisions during their travels. Without personalized recommendations or a way to track past trips, users can feel unprepared, miss out on ideal experiences, and repeat the same planning mistakes.

The goal of this project is to design a travel-focused weather app that helps users make confident, informed decisions before and during their trips.

The app combines accurate weather data with smart travel features to give users customized recommendations—such as ideal activity times, packing suggestions, and weather-based alerts. Integrated trip planning tools help users organize itineraries, while the trip log allows travelers to record memories, insights, and past weather patterns for future reference. Together, these features create a seamless, preparation-friendly experience that transforms weather information into actionable travel guidance.

Discovery

The discovery phase of our 48-hour design challenge, began in a Google-led workshop, where were first introduced to vibe coding. Representatives Mike Buzzard and Russell Matsuo taught us to use Gemini, Claude AI, and Xcode, to construct a basic weather app. Then it was time to explore where weather powered apps were lacking. Helping us rapidly shape early ideas and understand user expectations around weather powered apps. These insights clarified the need for a more intuitive, travel-focused weather experience and set the direction for CLIMAT.

Constraints and Tradeoffs

The limited time we were able to build while learning a new tool. I also had to learn when to tradeoff as AI isn't always perfect being ok with not having one element perfected and specific but making sure we are priotizingo nwhat needs to be made.

Design

In the design phase, we leveraged the powers of vibe coding to rapidly prototype and iterate on CLIMAT’s features. Using Gemini, Claude AI, and Xcode, we were able to quickly translate ideas into functional components, experiment with interface flows, and test interactive elements in real time. This approach allowed us to refine the app’s core functionalities—like personalized weather recommendations, trip planning, and the trip log—while ensuring a smooth, intuitive user experience. By the end of the challenge, we had a fully programmed iOS app that combined reliable weather insights with practical travel tools.
